Community solar is designed around net metering rules. Historically, net metering meant that if your rooftop solar panels generated more electricity than what you needed, you'd get a bill credit on your utility bill. With community solar, all the electricity produced becomes bill credits. Nexamp builds, owns, and operates the solar farm, but the bill credits aren't assigned to our utility bill – they're assigned to your utility bill as a subscriber. We can't give you the bill credits for free, but we can offer them at a discount. In our pay-as-you-go subscription model, you only pay Nexamp for the bill credits (at a discount) after they have been applied to your electricity bill.
